These superb dolls were from Lloyderson in conjunction with Marin in Spain. The Standard of Elegance Series was to cover the four seasons of the year...but I was never able to find out from the distributor if Winter was ever released. (I was told that they moved their production to porcelain.)
From her darling hat to her toes Vanessa is dressed in white lace and pink satin. Strawberry blonde hair is done in tight curls; pearl earrings match the buttons on her dress.
Her hat is a confection in white braid topped with ruffled white satin ribbon, a white tulle pouf and a rosette of pink ribbon bows accented with pearls. A pink rose is tucked onto one side.
Her white lace dress is done in three tiers over a white taffeta slip trimmed on the underside with silver lace. The white lace poufy sleeves have ribbon cuffs; the look extends to the wrists where the sleeves end in swirled braid which matches the collar. She has pink shoes and white hose. A bit of a bustle helps the long pink satin ribbon sash stay in place.
The parasol is a work of art. Ruffled white lace is lined with more pink taffeta, an elegant gold braided handle and an end piece of silver and pearls. The detailing is fantastic!
The ink on her hangtag has almost faded away. It reads: "Vanessa 811 and 2/88." "Selection Line 1988 Production." There are initials at the bottom.
The workmanship on the Lloyderson line is always beautiful...the wigs are fantastic, and their method of stabilizing the doll onto the base is ingenious...running the post up through one shoe gives a "isn't it neat how they did that" feeling.
When you see a picture of one of these dolls, the proportion is so good that you look twice to see if it's a person or a doll. They are beautiful dolls!
